Inclusion Criteria
* On invasive mechanical ventilation for at least 24 hours because of hypoxemic and/or hypercapnic respiratory failure
Exclusion Criteria
* Having a tracheotomy and
* COPD coexisted with severe cardiac or neurologic diseases.
