* Chronic stable angina pectoris
* Documented coronary artery disease
* Previous treatment with atenolol or other beta-blocker agent
* Exercise tolerance test positivity and stability

Exclusion Criteria

* Heart rate \< 60 bpm
* Congestive heart failure
