Trial Outcomes & Findings for TYRO Couples Project Study (NCT NCT05267236)
NCT ID: NCT05267236
Last Updated: 2025-09-19
Results Overview
What is the impact of on-demand delivery (treatment) compared to in-person delivery of the TYRO Couples curriculum (control) on employment attitudes six-months after enrollment? * 4 survey items independently measure the reported frequency of agreement with key co-parenting behaviors using categories on a 5-point scale (1 'Strongly Disagree', 2 'Disagree', 3 'Neither Agree nor Disagree', 4 'Agree', 5 'Strongly Agree'). * Higher scores on 4 items indicate better outcomes (ex. - I can overcome almost any challenge to get a decent job.) Subscales were formed to add the four survey items together and were divided by four. The subscale ranges from 1-5 (the lowest someone can score is 1, the highest someone can score is 5-which is most favorable.

Participant Flow
Participants were recruited from prisons within the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC). Enrollment took place between April 11, 2023, and continued through November 30, 2024
The only reason a participant would be excluded from the study after enrollment but before study assignment was if he/she did not provide consent to participate in the evaluation. Or, if he/she provided consent, then decided to revoke consent.

PRIMARY outcome
Timeframe: baseline to 6-month follow-upPopulation: 111 participants completed the required survey items for this measure in the treatment group; 114 in the control group.

Timeframe: baseline to 6-month follow-upPopulation: 114 participants in the treatment group responded to the survey items for this measure; 96 in the control group.
What is the impact of on-demand delivery (treatment) compared to in-person delivery of the TYRO Couples curriculum (control) on financial attitudes six months after enrollment? * 3 survey items measure the reported agreement for key financial attitudes using categories on a 5-point employment attitudes scale (1 'Strongly Disagree', 2 'Disagree', 3 'Neither Agree Nor Disagree', 4 'Agree', 5 'Strongly Agree'). * Higher scores on 3 items are negative (ex. - I am overwhelmed when I think about my financial situation.) Subscales were formed to add the three survey items together and were divided by three. The subscale ranges from 1-5 (the lowest someone can score is 1-which is most favorable, the highest someone can score is 5.

What is the impact of on-demand delivery (treatment) compared to in-person delivery of TYRO Couples curriculum (control) on partner relationship attitudes and expectations immediately after program completion? * 8 survey items measure the reported frequency of agreement with healthy partner relationship attitudes on a 5-point partner relationship attitudes scale (1 'Strongly Disagree', 2 'Disagree', 3 'Neither Agree Nor Disagree', 4 'Agree', 5 'Strongly Agree'). * Higher scores on all items are positive (ex. - I want to grow old with my partner.) Subscales were formed to add the eight survey items together and were divided by eight. The subscale ranges from 1-5 (the lowest someone can score is 1, the highest someone can score is 5-which is most favorable).

SECONDARY outcome
Timeframe: baseline to 6-month follow-upPopulation: 44 participants in the treatment group responded to survey items in this measure; 47 in the control group. It was not required to be in a relationship to be in the study, so there was a very low completion rate for this measure.
What is the impact of on-demand delivery (treatment) compared to in-person delivery of the TYRO Couples curriculum (control) on partner relationship behaviors six months after enrollment? * 7 survey items measure the reported frequency the respondent engaged in a series of healthy behaviors with a partner using categories on a 7-point partner relationship behavior scale (1 'Never', 2 'Rarely', 3 'Sometimes', 4 'Often', 5 'Always'). * Lower scores on all items are positive (ex. - How often do you and your partner disagree about religious matters?) Subscales were formed to add the seven survey items together and were divided by seven. The subscale ranges from 1-5 (the lowest someone can score is 1, the highest someone can score is 5-which is most favorable).
